Britney Spears' Femme Fatale Is 'All Club Bangers,' Pauly D Says

When Britney Spears took the stage at Rain nightclub at the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas last Friday, she was joined by the casino's resident DJ, none other than "Jersey Shore" star Pauly D, who spun tunes for Spears' rollicking three-song set.

MTV News caught up with the DJ, who said that it was quite a trip having his name up on the Palms marquee along with Spears'. "It's amazing. I like to see my name on marquees anyway, but now having it associated with Britney Spears [is awesome]," he admitted. "I've been a fan of her my whole life. I used to always play her music, so it's unreal."

Pauly further explained that when it comes to all the right ingredients coming together, having Brit and him on a bill together in Vegas is about as good as it gets. "Me, Britney and Vegas is the perfect combination. I love Las Vegas. I love music. Britney Spears loves music. Her new album's out, and who better to be onstage with her than DJ Pauly D?" he joked.

So, how does one prepare for a gig alongside the Femme Fatale star herself? "As a DJ, my style's like fresh to death," Pauly explained. He admitted that he makes sure his hair is just right, and of course, he throws in some GTL beforehand. But most importantly, "my music's got to be on point. The fresher I feel, the better I'm gonna perform."

Since all of the songs on Brit's album are club-ready, Pauly says he can foresee spinning any one of them. "Femme Fatale is amazing," he gushed about the critically acclaimed album. "Her music is amazing. It's all club bangers. 'Till the World Ends' is her new track and 'Hold It Against Me' goes off in the club."

To catch the Vegas performance, don't miss the "Britney Spears: I Am the Femme Fatale" special, airing Sunday, April 3, at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.

Jake Gyllenhaal 'Just Fascinated' With 'Source Code'

'There are a million ideas that come out of it,' actor tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner

In addition to the thrill ride and action-oriented aspects the "Source Code" trailers and TV spots are selling — as well as the film's very capable leading man, Jake Gyllenhaal — the plot's underlying subject matter leaves a lot of room for discussion and debate.

When MTV News caught up with Gyllenhaal recently during the film's press day, we asked him how the idea of occupying someone else's mind for eight minutes appeals to both his sci-fi and philosophical interests.

"First, I was just fascinated with the idea, the concept of what the Source Code was because it felt like the center of the movie is this computer program," Gyllenhaal explained. "So I thought, 'Well, does this hold water?' And then I thought, 'It does because it's a computer program that allows somebody to go into the body of another person for the last eight minutes of their life.' Had it been a computer program that allows somebody to go into somebody else's body, just anybody's body, it wouldn't be interesting, but this plays on the usurping of the electromagnetic impulses in the brain right before somebody dies."

Gyllenhaal went on to say that the idea of going back into a catastrophe and figuring out how it happened was particularly interesting, and he hopes it leaves audiences wanting to explore their own analysis as well.

"It opened up a world of possibilities, philosophically, for me," he revealed. "And psychologically, what effect does this have on the human brain, the person experiencing it, but at the same time, what effect could it have on history and what could it be used for? It was just fascinating: There are a million ideas that come out of it."

Katy Perry's 'E.T.' Video: Watch An Exclusive Preview!

Clip's on-air debut at 7:53 p.m. ET Thursday will be followed by live 'MTV First' interview with Perry on MTV.com.
By Kara Warner

The Thursday night premiere of Katy Perry's "E.T." video with Kanye West on MTV and MTV.com is getting closer and closer. Until then, a 60-second teaser of the futuristic, otherworldly clip should tide fans over.

The sneak peek shows Perry floating and spinning somewhere in outer space, decked out in an ethereal and dazzling-white ensemble. She looks like an angelic alien princess, complete with brightly colored makeup and cat-eye contact lenses. The footage of Perry singing is cut with what looks like footage from Animal Planet or National Geographic, showing big cats hunting game.

The remaining 30 seconds show Perry exploring the desolate terrain in an unknown land. She is wearing another highly complex and stylized outfit, a long silky train billowing in the wind. This time, she looks part femme fatale, part warrior goddess, with a little Lara Croft from "Tomb Raider" thrown in. Perry approaches what looks like a broken robot, wiping dust from its eyes. She is then shown reaching down to place her hand over the device's heart, which lights up at her touch.

At this point it's safe to say that this is Perry's most complex, stylized and out-there video production yet. The new clip premieres online at noon Thursday on MTV.com, VH1.com and LogoTV.com. Then, "MTV First: Katy Perry's 'E.T.' " will bow on air at 7:53 p.m. ET before tossing to an MTV.com live stream, featuring MTV News correspondent Sway's exclusive chat with Perry, an interview with director Floria Sigismondi and reaction from Perry's fans.

Don't miss the premiere of Katy Perry's "E.T." video, featuring Kanye West, at 7:53 p.m. ET Thursday on MTV, followed by our live "MTV First" interview with Katy Perry on MTV.com!

Casey Abrams Redeems Himself On 'American Idol' With 'Your Song'

Singer even cleans up his look during Elton John week — though the trademark beard stays put.
By Adam Graham

Casey Abrams performs on "American Idol" Wednesday

Following last week's dramatic judges' save, Casey Abrams was reborn on Wednesday's (March 30) "American Idol."

Abrams initially came into the competition one of the favorites to win it all, though a series of health problems and a couple of bum performances — including last week's train-wreck take on Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" — stalled his momentum to the point where America sent him packing. But the judges threw their weight behind the shaggy-haired soul man, and this week it was up to him to prove they made the right decision.

But first, he had to deal with the fallout from last week's performance. When mentor Jimmy Iovine rolled tape of Abrams' Motown week effort, the singer found it difficult to even watch. "You know what was wrong with that performance?" Iovine asked. Abrams sheepishly replied "some ... things?" while Iovine corrected him: "Everything!" Iovine went on to say Abrams "killed himself" with the Gaye cover, saying he'd lost his way in the competition and needed to refocus.

Producer Rodney Jerkins was just as critical, but had a far more concrete solution to Abrams' problems: "Get rid of the beard." Abrams took Jerkins' advice to heart and took his mug to Baxter Finley, a Los Angeles barber shop, where a team of skilled professionals trimmed his bushy facial fuzz and hacked away at his unkempt hair. The results weren't unveiled until Abrams hit the "Idol" stage, though it wasn't as dramatic as the segment led viewers to believe. Instead, Abrams' look was simply a fresher, cleaner version of the wild man he'd come to be known as — Abrams 2.0, if you will.

His performance was where he really showed his rededication to the competition. Taking on Elton John's "Your Song," Abrams stayed seated and didn't do laps around the studio as he did during Motown week or thrash in place as he did during his risky take on Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" two weeks prior. He dialed himself way back, delivering the song in a comfortable, heartfelt manner and letting the lyrics take over. (Some tabloid reports have tied Abrams to fellow contestant Haley Reinhart, though there was no word whether he was singing the song to his alleged new squeeze.) Eventually, he let out his inner Casey, grunting a few notes near the song's close, but overall it was the most reserved he'd been onstage yet. He delivered a high closing note that noted music scholar Randy Jackson would later identify as a Major 9.

Jackson called the performance "brilliant," "nice" and "tender," while Steven Tyler praised Abrams' range of styles, saying that makes him a "true artist." Jennifer Lopez called the performance "very Casey" and reiterated that the judges made the correct decision by keeping him around. "Along the way, we've had to make some hard decisions and send some really, really great people home, and I've lost sleep over that. But one decision I didn't lose one ounce of sleep over was saving you," she said. "I slept like a baby!"

What did you think of Casey Abrams' performance? Let us know in the comments!
